“The Refugees“

Oil on Canvas 40x50cm

Depicting the brutal consequences of war through the eyes of those who suffer most, innocent civilians. It depicts a young sister holding her younger sibling in their destroyed home, and reflects the strength that often characterizes women and children forced to flee war. The painting highlights not only the suffering of specific wars, such as in Gaza, Ukraine, or Syria, but also the recurring pattern of human tragedy in the wake of war. It highlights how wars are caused by men seeking power, control, or religious dominance, while innocents lose everything. It also highlights the systematic rape used as a weapon of war, where women and children are particularly vulnerable. Where soldiers see them as less than obstacles or bodies to be used and controlled for their own pleasure. To be degraded and violated due to not being born a man in today’s society.
